Moon Dance

64" x 80"

We had so much fun designing Moon Dance!  This pattern creates the illusion of overlapping areas which
appear to change color.  Any three colors can be used to create this illusion.  We used Hoffman Fabrics Me + You line of batiks for the cover quilt.

Materials:

(6) 1/3 yard each assorted teal fabrics (color 1)

(5) 1/2 yard each assorted red fabrics (color 2)

(5) 1/3 yard each assorted purple fabrics (color 3)

1 yard medium gray fabric for accent strips

2/3 yard fabric for stars (black)

Jason A. ★★★★★

The overlapping illusion really does make the colors shift depending on how you look at it, which I wasn't expecting from such a simple three-color pattern. At 64" x 80" it's a generous size too, so the effect has plenty of room to play out. Genuinely fun to watch come together.

Joshua ★★★★★

I was nervous about picking only three colors, but the way the shapes seem to shift and overlap as you look at it is genuinely clever. Finished at 64" x 80" it makes a decent lap quilt, though mine's already been claimed for the couch.

Owen ★★★★★

The overlapping effect really does look like the colors shift depending on the angle you view it from. I used three muted tones and the illusion is stunning.
